NICHES Julie Rusbam to speak at Kokomo Creation Care
October 11, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Julie Rubsam, Deputy Director of the NICHES Land Trust which includes services to Howard County, will be the Guest Speaker at the October Kokomo Creation Care meeting on Thursday, October 11th, at Christ Lutheran Church at 3401 S. Dixon Rd. at 7 pm. The land trust was established in 1995. The mission of NICHES is to protect, restore and sustain northern Indiana’s ecosystems by providing habitat for native species and offering natural places for education, appreciation, and enjoyment of current and future generations.
The NICHES Land Trust owns and manages land in west central Indiana to protect and preserve native wildlife habitats. NICHES relies on the efforts of volunteers, contributions by members, and work of staff to maintain high-quality natural areas accessible to the community free of charge for enjoyment, appreciation, and education. In addition to managing litter across the 3,500+ acres, the organization protects and uses volunteers to do the hard work to keep our waterways clean. In the recent past, NICHES partnered with the Wildcat Guardians to do a Wildcat Creek cleanup project from Monitor to the Wildcat Creek Park.
The organization has a wide range of activities to help us enjoy and appreciate our outdoors. For example, on October 20th there will be a Frogs Glory Trail Dedication at Frogs Glory Reserve. On October 27th, they will be using volunteers for seed planting to provide a Fisher Oak Savanna area.
The meeting is free and open to people of all faith communities as well as interested individuals who want to know more about the program. Kokomo Area Creation Care is an affiliate of Hoosier Power and Light. We explore programs, projects, and activities that help us be aware of ways we can become better stewards of the earth. Fellowship and snacks may be enjoyed at 6:45 pm. For questions or more information please contact Carol Chen at email@example.com.
