Kokomo Area Creation Care – Thistle Rock Farm Information Session
April 11, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
On Thursday, April 11, Kokomo Area Creation Care, an affiliate of Hoosier Interfaith Power and Light, members and guests will learn about Thistle Rock Farm operated by Steve Daily and his partner Michelle Martin. The mission of the farm is to provide the community with organically grown, non-GMO fruits, vegetables and eggs produced at the 125 acre farm in Russiaville. They will inform us about how their food is produced, the benefits of eating their organic food, as well as learning about events and tours hosted by the farm.
Steve Daily is the former mayor of Kokomo and former Chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College at Kokomo. Michelle also worked at Ivy Tech and managed the Kokomo Event & Conference Center. They have been farming together for over a decade. Steve was born with farming in his blood. Michelle is a reformed city girl from Indianapolis and has lived in the Kokomo area for over 15 years.
Thistle Rock Farm grows everything organically from non-GMO seed. The farm ground has not been exposed to chemicals for over 40 years. The chickens are free-range and their feed is supplemented with non-GMO no soy grain. They also have an apple orchard with 6 varieties of apples, some hard to find locally.
The farm produce is sold at the Farmers’ Downtown Market on Saturdays , April to October from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. and at their farm stand -Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 6 p.m. Tours of the farm are by appointment only. They also host on-farm events such as farm to fork dinners. Information on the farm may easily be found on the net under Thistle Rock Farm.
The meeting will be held at Christ Lutheran Church located at 3401 S. Dixon Road at 7p.m. Light refreshments and fellowship may be enjoyed at 6:45 p.m. Our group provides programs that focus on making better use of our resources, improve the health and well-being of humans, animals, plants and ecosystems comprising Creation.
