H-IPL members participated in the first annual Renewable Energy Lobby Day at the Indiana Statehouse on March 6th, 2019. We joined with coalition partners from many different organizations across Indiana to learn about energy-related bills at the statehouse and then lobby our state representatives and state senators to ask that we move away as a state from using fossil fuels towards sustainable energy, while ensuring that everyone has access to and can afford renewable energy and energy efficiency!
At the end of the event, we joined in a press conference. H-IPL member John Mundell and a member of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis’ Creation Care Team, have remarks recognizing that this event was happening on Ash Wednesday (an ironic connection to coal ash!). John encouraged us to think about this as “an ecological conversion as Pope Francis has encouraged” to “connect the dots between faith, and life, and action….life is short.” Ash Wednesday is a “stark reminder to me of my own mortality, and my ultimate return to and connection with all of Creation. Let’s choose to die today to our worldly desires – to lead simpler and more sustainable lives so that we can guarantee a brighter, happier and healthier future for our children and grandchildren, and our beautiful planet Earth.”
We were very grateful to participate in this day and look forward to participating again next year!
